Étude de la validité apparente d’un dispositif de certification en langue

Olivier Delhaye, Christina Chatzipanteli

Abstract

The goal of this research is to assess the face validity of the Greek Foreign Language Exam System (KPG).

The construction of a theoretical frame allows, among others, to establish that the face validity indicators of a certification system are not necessarily all linked to the form or the contents of the examinations. Representations linked to the certification granted, to the examination system, to the information provided about the functioning of the system, can complete the image that the population concerned has of the product, the consumer good that is also KPG. Therefore, these representations are also taken into account.

Preliminary research allowed us to collect characteristics and representations linked to the studied certification system. We then determine these characteristics, and also the degree of identification to these representations of external users of the system, based on the responses of 3865 individuals. This sample is derived both from a population constituted by all the candidates who participated in the May 2011 session of the examination, by their parents and by the teachers who were accompanying their students, and from a population of students participating in linguistic courses organized by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Our results suggest the respondents’ main representations of KPG’s validity.
